1 envelope. 1 side is torn open. On recto, the address of recipient is handwritten. On verso, return address is handwritten on flap. Postage stamps have been removed, and some traces of the paper appear at point of flap. Contained a letter in Yiddish from Fischel (Fiszke) Cüker in Horochów, Poland to Rachel Eisenberg, Esplanade Avenue, Montreal, postmarked November 24, 1937. Letter is accession 2011X.43.08. Narrative: The donor, Rochel (Rochl, Rachel) (Eisenberg) Ravitch was born Rochel Eisen in Horochów, Poland. She immigrated to Montreal with her parents in 1923 and worked in the Jewish Public Library from 1926-1954, where she began to go by Rochel (Rochl) Eisenberg. She was married to the renowned Yiddish poet Melech Ravitz (Zekharye-Khone Bergner), who was instrumental in establishing the Yiddishe folks universitet (YIFO), the education programming at the JPL. The couple left Montreal in 1954.

Document is a letter from Fischel (Fiszke) Cüker in Horochów, Poland to Rachel Eisenberg, Esplanade Avenue, Montreal. Information about sender and recipient on envelope (accession 2011X.43.01). Letter mentions difficulties of life in Poland for the sender and contains many words of affection for the recipient.
