Leading Aircraftman Schwartz came to Canada to enlist in the air force in the autumn of 1941 after he had served for a time in the U.S. Marine Corps as a second lieutenant. He trained at the Toronto Manning Depot, Fingal, Prince Albert, Malton and Jarvis. At the time of his death he had been scheduled to receive his wings.
