News Story (headline and 1/3 front page): Prominent community activist, acknowledged leader of Canadian Jewry and associated closely with important Jewish institutions, which he helped with advice and support. Born in 1867. Came to Montreal as a boy. Began his community activity in 1885 when he organized a drama circle , and wrote and produced a Purim play for the religious school of Shaar Hashomayim Shul. He was the nephew of the Montreal Chief rabbi, Tsvi HaCohen. Predeceased by his younger brother, A. Z. Cohen, a month ago. Was a pioneer of Jewish Journalism in Canada, founded and published 'The Jewish Times'. Owner of the clothing manufacturer, the Friedman Co., and involved in other financial and industrial enterprises..
