- Notes
- Gunner Edgar Goldstein was from Montreal, Quebec, where he enlisted in March 1916. He originally went overseas with a draft of the 66th Battery, CFA. His first stripes, given up voluntarily when he left for France, he regained on the Somme Front when attached to a Howitzer Battery of 2nd Division, Can. Field Artillery. He refused a medal, offered him for distinguished service, saying that he was no braver than others and that all had done their best, and was recommended for a lieutenancy. He was killed at the Battle of Loos, August 15, 1917, at the age of 20 years, on the very day of his departure for England to take up his commission after ten months' continuous service at the Front, including action at Courcelette, the Somme, Albert, Arras, Vimy Ridge and Lens."
