Three pages, typed on both sides, on the back of page 3 is typed another letter dated January 19, 1941 from Springfield, Massachusetts. Dated 6 April 1940 and written in Riga (Latvia). Sema (Solomon) lived in Berlin when the war began. He was able to save the money to buy the "harmlessness certificate" which allowed him to enter Latvia. From Latvia, he tried to receive a visa to USA, via Japan. He describes the process of applying for a visa: interview, $110 ticket to Cobe (San-Francisco), $125 lending fees for Japanese Consulate and to have the following documents ready: intelligence test results, medical exams results, national passport.
