- This series consists of 49 film canisters, a few containing multiple small reels, and several dozen additional small loose sound reels. The total duration of this material has not been estimated. The vast majority of this series consist of sound reels. Although a small proportion of these sound reels contain material of potential interest such as interviews with Moroccan Jews in Montreal, and speeches made at conferences, the specific speakers are for the most part unidentified, making them of limited research value. The remainder of the material in this series consists of sound materials gathered in the process of research, and sound elements used for the final mix of the film. Much of this sound material is comprised of sound loops of room tone and effects, background music, sound mixes, and extra copies of sound recordings. A number of sound reels appear to belong to unrelated Bensimon film projects. In addition to the original visual material shot for the film, the visual film stock in this collection includes archival footage of Morocco, and canisters labeled "stock shots." Although most of the material is in 16 mm format, a few of the film reels are 35 mm.

- Director of Jewish Community Services Mr. Manuel Batshaw responds to numerous questions regarding the Sephardic Jewish community from North Africa and how they were received by Montreal's community and its leaders. Bensimon's questions suggest a real schism between the two communities and how they saw each other. Batshaw confides about some of the difficulties that both sides had to overcome for a better dialogue and responds to questions about the impact of Maimonides School built exclusively through Sephardic support, the francophone element as to how it effected changes at Jewish summer camps, and other related issues. Some of the sections of the visual interview are missing though the sound is in sync.

- The fonds consists of 131 canisters of film reels, some with many reels per canister, as well as several dozen additional loose sound reels, adding up to a total of 411 reels, most of which were used in making the film "20 Ans Après". The 37 canisters of synched sound and audio material in Series A were all filmed within the Montreal Jewish community of the mid 1970s. They cover most of the same topics that appear in the film, but in a more discursive manner than the final production could allow. As a result, they more fully reveal the breadth of the discussions and the scope of the concerns of the Montreal Jewish community at that time. In this regard, they may be among the most informative sources of information available about Francophone Jews in 1970s Quebec. The material in Series B consists mainly of additional elements used in the making of the film, such as archival footage of Jews in Morocco, and background sound, as well as some sound reels that appear to be associated with other Bensimon productions.

- This is the only film about Moroccan Jews in Montreal (released 1977), 20 ans après documents the first 20 years of the Montreal Moroccan Jewish community. Jacques Bensimon was born in Morocco and came to Canada in 1958 with his family. He studied cinema at University of New York. In 1968, he started working with the NFB as a film editor and the as director. Jacques Bensimon made several films for the National Film Board about Morocco; Once . Agadir, Aqua Rondo, Carnets du Maroc III - La Volonté et la Foi, Carnets du Maroc II - Au sujet du Roi, Carnets du Maroc I - Mémoire à rebours. Other works by Jacques Bensimon are; With Hands and Hope, Richard Rohmer and His Referendum - A View from Quebec, and Rock-a-bye.

- Outs of footage from P-1060-27 with Jewish family at JIAS offices. In this material, other families are presented in voice-over sound with lots of images missing. In one sequence, a younger JIAS male counselor lists some of the services the new immigrants can access. They include, among others: housing information on leasing, a drop-in centre for women to help them adapt to new food, shopping, etc., summer camp for children, and information on various religious and secular public schools available for the children. There are also shots of the waiting room and other clients, a receptionist and an older and younger male counselor at work.

- A group of 7 to 8 Moroccan Jewish men at Casa Pedro discuss the pros and cons of various aspects of their experiences in trying to integrate into Quebec society. Much joking. Some, more integrated than others, explain their firsthand accounts. They touch upon the taboo of intermarriage, the specific problems of being seen as Jews versus as Moroccans, the need to find a sense of belonging, comparisons with Ontario's Sephardic Jews who blended in with the English, and some unanswered questions about their place in Quebec, should it become independent. The sequence ends with their playing a video game and walking as a group down a street in the evening. Disappointing both in content and general comprehension, but one or two revealing details can be assumed from this collection of representative Moroccan men.

- Beautiful Moroccan chanting and Hebrew prayers of the minyan gathered for the circumcision. The baby is brought out in the customary long robe by the father and passed to the mohel, the man who will perform the procedure. As prayers continue, the camera zooms in on the tiny penis being prepared. Prayers continue without image and resume with Jacques Bensimon asking a French-Canadian woman for her impressions. Then people eating from a long table of food. Cutaway reel shows the mohel sterilizing his instruments, close-up of the baby, various guests and a bleached-blond woman, presumably the mother, feeding a baby bottle of milk to calm the child. The whole sequence is choppy. More footage of waiting guests, then leaving.

- Most of this material is end or start marks for sync sound/camera shot during the Federation (see P-0160-21 and P-0160-22 for fuller clips of speakers). In this reel, there are glimpses of James Dahan, Raphael Mergui, Charles Delmar and re-elected president Elias Malka, who is honoured by the community and awarded a gift of thanks. Some motions are proposed and voted upon, and there still remains a sense of chaotic disagreement between various factions in the community and its speakers. In the smaller Roll 2, Elias Malka, the elected leader of Montreal's Sephardic community, and Raphael Mergui, sociologist and critic of the Jewish establishment, both give their take on the situation of Israel's Sephardim - neither position is in the final film.

- New French Moroccan immigrants study English with teacher in a JIAS boardroom by repeating phrases and exchanging with teacher. A couple also are interviewed in the second half of the film on learning English, reactions to anti-Semitism, the Canadian Jewish experience in Montreal as seen by the two participants. An older woman watches them speak. Some segments of the interviews are missing - they talk about the Sephardic community in Montreal, JIAS, a comparison between the Quebec and Palestinian independence. Also an interview with the English teacher and her sense of the community. (Montreal Catholic School Commission pays for teachers, but JIAS also provides location and convenience for Jewish participants in the area.)

- At the 2nd Congres de la Federation Sepharade Canadienne held in Montreal June 7 to 8, 1975, several speakers vie for the opportunity to address the gathering in a heated debate that threatens to split the community into two opposing camps. Some of the speakers (recognized) include: Raphael Mergui, sociologist, who wants to present a working paper from his group on the social problems that Sephardic Jews in Israel face. Another sociologist, Michael Elbaz, also addresses the assembly, as does another Mr. Mergui, who represents a group of former Israelis and Sephardic Jews who emigrated to Canada and their concerns for families still in Israel. The discussion is passionate and a split in the community is palpable. The Israeli speaker, in a motion of solidarity with fellow Sephardic Jews in Israel, renounces his Israeli citizenship and that of his group's members before the Consulate General of Israel, who is on stage with the other invited guests and speakers. This same debate heats up again on P-0160-22 as the reports, presentations and audience reactions to the meeting heat up as well.

- As in P-0160-21, the second day (June 8, 1975) of the 2nd Congres de la Federation Sepharade Canadienne, the re-election of Elias Malka as its president is followed by speakers from away, such as Andre Narmounian (?). Raphael Mergui presents a series of motions to the assembly in order to draw attention to the plight of Sephardic Jews in Israel. He is subsequently warned about, and the assembly discourages him from, addressing any negative comments on Israel in public, as these may be picked up by neo-Nazi groups and others who are against the State. The other Mr. Mergui, who represents Israeli Sephardic Jewish immigrants, also confirms his allegiance to the State in an attempt to defuse concerns. A split within the community is evident, seeing how heated the debate is and how adamant both sides seem to be with regard to maintaining control over an assembly that threatens to disintegrate into chaos.

- Federation Congress 2. This is the first roll of selected sync speeches from the participants, including the president, Elias Malka, the Consulate General of Israel, Shalom Adayou, and the disruption of a group that confronts the audience with their experiences as Sephardic Jews from Israel. In another roll of film (P-0160-21), they renounce their Israeli citizenship. Lots of non-sync material here too, crowd reactions in sound, etc. Some confusion - sequences with people shouting chaotically in response to the speakers who have taken over the microphone. Dahan, Elbaz, Mergui, and the usual suspects speak out.

- Hillel Group (approximately 8-9 girls and boys in their twenties) talk of their ambivalent positions as Jews in a francophone Catholic society. They touch upon various topics, including their views on Quebecois prejudices, personal accounts of antisemitism, attempts to mix with English groups, the ease with which they are lumped into the immigrant class due to their French accents, their aspirations in learning to value the traditions, culture and customs as Sephardim as they struggle to belong to the new society into which they want to integrate. - Camera crew follows two families arriving from Morocco to the airport as they are greeted by their JIAS worker and go through their interview with the immigration agent of the Canadian government. The same two families appear in the JIAS offices the next day for an extended interview (on P-0160 cans 27 and 29). Towards the end of the reel, Bensimon questions a young woman who has decided to join her uncle in Canada, but her stunned silence makes the material useless. Choppy sections throughout - missing. Cutaways: Children with father and mother smiling in waiting room, immigration workers, reception at JIAS, immigrants .
