History / Biographical
Born in 1895 in New York, William Gittes was the president of Sterling Woolens and Silks Co. Ltd., as well as the president of Textile Wholesalers Association of Canada. He was an administrator in the Wartime Prices and Trade Board 1945-1947. He had extensive Jewish community involvement including Combined Jewish Appeal (as Hon. Chairman), Governor of Jewish General Hospital, Hon. Vice-President and Trustee of Temple Emanuel Beth Sholom. He died in 1991 in Montreal.
