- History / Biographical
- Harry Levitan, third son of Morris and Rachael Levitan, was born in Buckingham, Quebec, July 9, 1914. His older brothers were Leo, Archie, Harry, sister Rose and step-brother Elliott. Harry grew up in Ottawa and attended York Street Public School and Lisgar Collegiate until his father urged him to work in his business of scrap metal. Harry lived for several years in Almonte where he operated a mill which recycled cloth. The Almonte textile business could not compete with the emergence of synthetic materials and went out of business. He eventually became an owner of Bakermet with Elliott Levitan. He married Frieda Lesh (Norman Lesh’s sister) in 1941, and died September 24, 1994.
