- Jack Smith was one of 13 children born to an Ottawa Shoemaker in Lowertown who had emigrated from Russia with his young bride. He was well known in the Ottawa Jewish community and spent the majority of his life working as a caterer in the Ottawa area. Jack was married twice, first to Inez with whom he had 10 children. After Inez's death in the late 1970's, Jack married Linda in [1983]. Jack Smith was known for his charitable works in the community and was actively involved with several Jewish community groups including: B'nai B'rith, Camp B'nai B'rith, the Jewish National Fund, State of Israel Bonds, and the Jewish Federation. He was a key organizer in the 1980 Lowertown Reunion, and the driving force behind B'nar B'rith's Millionaires Night. In 1988, he was the man of honour at the Negev Dinner.
