- History / Biographical
- Mark Abramson (b. unknown - d. May 16, 1944) was the son of Ottawa merchant Louis Abramson (b.1868 - d.1934) and Dora Abramson (b.1874 - d.1939). He had a brother, Hess Abramson, and two sisters, Mrs. William Holzman and Eva Abramson. Mark Abramson received his education in Kingston and Lisgar collegiate in Ottawa. He enlisted in July 1940 and after graduating as a sergeant observer at Rivers, Manitoba, in February 1941, was soon posted overseas. He was promoted to the rank of pilot officer on August 10, 1942. Flying Officer Abramson participated in many flights over Nazi territory and was nearing completion of his second tour of operations when he was reported missing. His plane was shot down over the Island of Fuenen, Denmark and he is buried in the Assens Military Cemetery. Hess Abramson visited the Assens Military Cemetery in 1946 or 1947, followed by his sister, Mrs William Holzman in 1960 or 1961, and nephew, John Holzman in 1972. Friend, Dave Molot,= and his wife Lotte Molot, visited the cemetery on May 18, 1939 and Dave Molot said kadish. “In 1941 and 1942 Mark and I (Dave Molot) spent many a week-end together in London, England. I recall the first time I met Lotte, now my wife, Mark and I were together. We were visiting Woburn House, a hospitality service club for the Canadian Jewish force.” John Holzman, along with his son, Mark, visited Assens again in May 2005.
