History / Biographical
The Mizrachi Organization of Canada was founded in August, 1940. Before the creation of Mizrachi-Hapoel Hamizrachi Women's Organization of Canada, Canadian Mizrachi groups where affiliated with the Mizrachi Organization of America. The Mizrachi Organization motto is “The land of Israel for the people of Israel according to the Torah of Israel”. The purpose of Mizrachi was to support and foster a relationship between Canada and the State of Israel while supporting educational development and family services in Israel. One of the main projects of Mizrachi was to undertake the sponsoring, adoption, and construction of nurseries in Israel. The organization wanted a new Jewish state to be born, both socialist and religious, based on biblical laws and known as religious Zionism. The organization engaged in fund raising, national conventions and also the establishment of the Mizrachi Agricultural School and Camp at Bronte, Ontario “to train a productive and realistic youth”. The Ottawa branch, in essence, consisted of Rabbi Fasman. On May 21, 1984 the organization's name was officially changed to Emunah Women of Canada. An Ottawa chapter remains active in the present day.
