- History / Biographical
- Frank Harry Sinclair (1885 - December 24 1945) and his wife Annie May Sinclair (1890-1956), with their family, moved from Montreal to Ottawa to operate a dancing school at Racquet Court, Metcalfe Street. The Sinclairs lived over the studio and then moved to a home in the Glebe. They had three daughters, Marjorie, Cecilia and Rose. The Sinclairs were prominent in Ottawa’s entertainment circles. They taught children’s classes, ballroom dancing, tap and ballet. Recitals were held every year and the Sinclairs also trained people for amateur shows such as Hadassah theatricals. They held regular classes at the Y.M.C.A., taught ballroom dancing at Elmwood and Ashbury Schools, and also gave classes to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire’s children at Rideau Hall. The business ran until the late 1930's with daughters Cecilia and Rose Sinclair taking active teaching roles. Rose Sinclair trained skater Barbara Ann Scott in her dance and ballet moves in the basement of the Minto skating arena.
