- History / Biographical
- A group of Zaglembie (Poland) Jews who survived the Holocaust arrived in Montreal in 1947. They soon formed an organization to "revive and continue their culture and traditions", and to remember their pasts. As of 1958, the Association of Zaglembie Jews of Montreal, like most landsmanschaft, has been keeping in touch with their fellow Jews who remained in Zaglembie or who emigrated to Israel. As well, they sell burial plots to members, and raise funds for local Jewish organizations and for Israel. To commemorate those from their part of Poland who perished in the Holocaust, the Association erected a monument in their cemetery in Duvernay, Quebec.
