- Born in Dunayevtsy, Poland on March 10, 1899, Shloime Wiseman came to Canada in his early youth, to Montreal in 1913. He was an educator and a scholar. He served for over half a century as principal of the Jewish People's Schools. Called, "lerer" (teacher in Yiddish) by his pupils, Mr. Wiseman was responsible for pioneering the first Jewish day school in Montreal in 1927. In 1920, Mr. Wiseman completed an education degree at McGill and in 1925, a master's degree. Mr. Wiseman also founded and served as first dean of the Jewish Teachers' Seminary. In 1953 Mr. Wiseman translated into Hebrew and anthology of American short stories. After retirement at the age of 72 Mr. Wiseman translated the "Discourses of Epicteus" from classical Greek into modern Hebrew.
