Oscar-winning director Beverly Shaffer (I'll Find a Way: Best Live Action Short, 1978) was born in Montreal, earning degrees from McGill and Macdonald College. She began working for the National Film Board under the Studio D project in 1975, directing for the next ten years all of the "Children in Canada" series films, which included "I'll Find a Way". Other notable films by Ms. Shaffer include "Mr. Mergler's Gift" (2005) and the 1999 follow-up to "I'll Find a Way", "It's Just a Wedding".
