- Canadian Yiddish poet. Born in Russia Segal came to Montreal at the age of 11, and at the age of 17 he had his first poem published in the Keneder Adler. He edited his first literary magazine in 1921 and later this year he published his first book of poems. His creative output include 12 volumes of Yiddish poetry, hundreds of articles, essays and short stories which appeared in the Keneder Adler and in a large number of periodicals in Canada, United States and other countries. He won the International Lamed Prize in 1949. Segal's writings for children won international fame and many of his works are included in school text books. Died suddenly March 7, 1954.
