- History / Biographical
- Ethel Ostry Kleinstein was a social worker involved with the War Orphans Project of 1947-1948. Previously she had worked in Palestine with Henrietta Szold and in various Canadian cities with neglected children, unwed mothers, Hebrew relief, and Baron de Hirsch Family Services. She came to Montreal to take the position of executive director of the Central Division of Canadian Jewish Congress. She was then sent by UNRRA to Europe from 1945 to 1948 to work with the War Orphans Project, which brought 1,116 children to Canada.
