- The series consists of half a box containing 32 files of Bat Mitzvahs, "Sweet Sixteens," circumcisions, and other events. The majority of the files in this series consist of "Sweet Sixteen" and Bat Mitzvah photos. The series also includes two ritual circumcisions, and a hair-cutting ceremony. As the number of files in each of these categories is small, these files were grouped into a single series. The "Sweet Sixteen" photos depict studio portraits of the girl and her family, decorations such as a floral trellis, a night club setting, the girl dancing with her date, the head table, style details such as a lady with a muff, putting on corsages, blowing out candles on the birthday cake, speeches, the head table, sweet table, gift opening and pianist. Other Family series negatives include two circumcision ceremonies, including the party which follows.Additional files in this series feature an Orthodox family group, a man in a shtreimel (hat with fur on a wide brim), the cutting of the peyot (sidelocks) when a boy turns three years of age, a young girl in a hat and an Orthodox mother wearing a wig. There are also some "four generations" shots and the exterior and interior of a house

- History / Biographical
- In addition to weddings and Bar Mitzvahs, several other ritual and secular occasions mark stages in the Jewish life cycle. Several of these are documented to a small extent in the Drummond collection.During the 1960s and 1970s, it was customary to make a special party called a "Sweet Sixteen" for a Jewish girl who was turning sixteen, although this was not a religiously required event. This custom has since been replaced by the Bat Mitzvah when a girl turns twelve. This is a religious ceremony which often takes place in a synagogue. Circumcisions are carried out at the age of 8 days for Jewish boys. A party follows the ritual part of the event. At the age of 3 years, boys in very Orthodox families receive their first haircuts. At this time the hair at the corners of the face (the peyot or sidelocks) are left uncut.Jewish pride in family continuity shows in the frequent occurrence of "four generations" portrait groupings in the Drummond collection. A few examples of this genre have been preserved
