- Notes
- The front of the postcard shows a portrait picture of Prof. Dr. O. Warburg, head of a Zionist Organisation. On the back is a stamp from the Austrian-Hungarian Empire with a portrait of Kaiser Franz Joseph, worth 5 Heller. Otto Warburg was a botanist; born in Hamburg July 20, 1859. From 1897 to 1903 Warburg was the publisher and editor of "Der Tropenpflanzer," a journal of tropical agriculture and the organ of the Colonial Agricultural Committee. He was also one of the principal collaborators on the Zionistic periodicals "Palästina" and "Altneuland." Warburg was chairman of the Palestine Commission of the Zionist Congress. Narrative: This postcard was written by Bernhard Kissman (Donor's father) to his fiancee Fritzi Winter (Donor's mother) who lived at that time with her parents in Tescheutz, Bukowina. They got married in July 1913. Bernhard Kissman worked at various places in forestry. Postcards between them were written daily, often a letter followed.
