- Notes
- Shield has curved sides that meet at a narrowed rounded bottom, with a raised point at mid-point of top edge. It is hooked to the crown, which has 3 rounded humps, the middle one narrower than the others, and a flat bottom edge. The pieces are connected via the bottom edge of the crown and the top edge of the shield. Crown has a hook on top of the central hump . Both pieces have shiny raised lettering in Hebrew on a darker, rough background. Plaque is rectangular and shiny, with darker Hebrew script. The Hebrew word for Tuesday is written on the plaque. Bell is concave, flares outward at bottom. Bottom edge of bell is ridged, small metal hook on top. Narrative: These ornaments were donated by Mr. and Mrs. H. Chobocky in memory of their uncle Jan Roudnicky, who was murdered in the Holocaust. Jan Roudnicky, born in 1895, was deported from Kolin, Bohemia to Theresienstadt on June 9, 1942, and then to Auschwitz Birkenau on September 28, 1944. These objects were found in a cemetery after the war by a cousin of the donors.
