Shred of paper above sticker, affixed with staple. Document is the first grade report card of Ilse Gottfried, a student at the communal school n.1 in Antwerp. Belgium, for the 1938-1939 school year. Narrative: This was the report card of the donor, Ilse Gottfried. She was born in 1932 in Vienna, Austria. After Austria's annexation into the Reich in 1938, the Gottfried family (father Salomon, mother Augustina and their children Kurt and Ilse) fled the countrey. With fake idenytities on their passport they went from Vienna to Cologne (Germany), then to the Netherlands. From the Netherlands they went to Belgium where they lived long enough for IIse to attend school. They finally moved to France and in September 1939, the family sailed for Canada on the last ship out of Europe before the outbreak of the war.
