- Black ink on white paper. Outdoor scene with a group of men wearing Star of David armbands in front of the building of the Judenrat (Jewish council). They are waiting in line to enter the building. In the foreground a guard stands facing the men, holding a truncheon in his right band. At the entrance to the building, a second guard stands on the stars, looking at the crowd. He also carries a truncheon. Both guards wear Star of David armbands - they are members of the Jewish Ghetto Police. It is winter, there is snow on the ground and everyone wears heavy coats and hats. Narrative: All 16 of the prints in this series depict life of Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto during the Holocaust. Printmaker, book illustrator and painter, Stefan Mrozewski was born in Czéstochowa, Poland. Mrozewski's prints are in permament collections of several public art collections in Europe and North America. The artist was married to Irena Blizinska. An ardent patriot, he was a volunteer in the Polish Army in the war against the Soviet Union in 1920, as well as during the Second World War when he served in Armia Krajowa, the clandestine Polish Home Army.
