Document is a letter to the American Consulate General in Shanghai, certifying that Salomon Heiss had been working for the office as a messenger since August 12, 1947. Narrative: Salomon Heiss was the father of the donor, Erika Bloom. The Heiss family fled Nazi-occupied Vienna in 1938, after Salomon was arrested and detained in Dachau for 3 days. They survived the war in Shanghai, immigrated to Israel in 1949, and eventually settled in Montreal.
