- 1 page, double-sided horizontal paper, folded vertically. Recto contains typed text, top left corner reads "Vajai körjegyz?ség [trad.: Vaja district notary] / 1961 / 1945 K.". Handwriting at top right corner, dated "Vaja. 945 VIII/27". Verso, typed text continues, dated "Vaja,1945 augusztus 27." Signed at left centre by district notary. Circular stamp at centre. Narrative: Donor is Elaine Kalman Naves, daughter of Gusztáv and Anikó Weinberger. Gusztáv returned from the front to learn that 34 members of his extended family, including his wife and small daughter Évike, had been deported to Auschwitz. Only one cousin returned. He remarried Anikó Schwartz and they had two daughters, Elaine and Judith. This collection of correspondence was used as part of the research for the following book: Kalman Naves, Elaine. Journey to Vaja: Reconstructing the World of a Hungarian-Jewish Family. Montreal: McGill-Queen's University Press, 1996. Print.
