- 1 page, double-sided horizontal paper, folded horizontally and vertically. Recto, in handwriting of Mancika Mandula Weinberger, continues on to left side of verso. Signed "Manci" and dated "IV.16". Below is the handwriting of Ilona Weinberger, continues on to right side. Following are two lines in Mancika's hand. On recto of envelope, in Mancika's handwriting, addressed to "Weinberger Gustav / 108/101 msz." in "Maroshéviz" [which has been crossed out in black ink], Maros-Torda county. At top right, signature of Captain Soós. At top right, one red 30 forint fiscal stamp. At top left, letter "G" in graphite pencil. Letter contains correspondence between the Weinberger family and Gustav Weinberger, contains family updates and well-wishes. The tone in this letter is notably more anxious than previous correspondence. Narrative: Donor is Elaine Kalman Naves, daughter of Gustav and Anikó Weinberger. The letter is in the handwriting of Mancika Mandula Weinberger (1910-1944) -- the first wife of Gustav Weinberger -- and Ilona Weinberger (1881-1944). All but Gustav were killed in Auschwitz in 1944. The correspondence was under supervision by Captain Soós. This collection of correspondence was used as part of the research for the following book: Kalman Naves, Elaine. Journey to Vaja: Reconstructing the World of a Hungarian-Jewish Family. Montreal: McGill-Queen's University Press, 1996. Print.
