History Biographical
Alyce Baker was born in 1951 in Montreal, daughter of Frances and Mischa Geltman. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Sir George Williams and an Ontario teachers certificate as a French specialist from Ottawa teacher’s College.
She commenced working for the Ottawa Board of Education and worked in the educational field until she worked for Jack Edelson Catering, 1988-1990, followed by thirteen years with the Jewish Community Council of Ottawa. She returned to catering, working for Creative Kosher Catering from 2003 to 2008. That was followed by Party Chic.
Alyce married Allan Baker in 1973 and they have two children Michael and Lauren.
Alyce always has devoted a lot of time to volunteering, including National Council of Jewish Women, Women’s Campaign of United Jewish Appeal, State of Israel Bonds, Jewish National Fund and a member of Hadassah-Wizo. There are also special events as Israel’s 50th anniversary, Beth Shalom’s 50th anniversary, the walkathon and Yom HaShoah.
Alyce is an excellent cook. She “learned the love of food and entertaining from my mother who was an accomplished cook and hostess. She understood the importance of health and nutrition before it became in vogue. It was natural that I would gravitate to catering. I always had good organizational skills which were honed when I worked for the Jewish community Council of Ottawa and ran all the events”.
