History / Biographical
Steven Lapidus is a graduate student at Concordia University whose ties to Montreal's ultra-Orthodox and Hassidic community, acquired in the course of his Ph.D.-level research, have resulted in the acquisition of some rare items for the Archives. He also has ties to the history of Montreal's mainstream Ashkenazi Jewish community through his parents and grandparents. Harav Yohanan Wosner is the head of Skver of Montreal and also of the New Square Skver community of New York. He was seriously injured in a car accident in November 2008 in a car heading from New Square to Montreal, a factor that led to the tribute event represented by the volume described below. The Skver Skver-Toldos Orthodox Jewish Boys School in the Montreal district of Outremont was firebombed at midnight, Sept. 2, 2006. This incident is not related to the present volume. His grandfather was Joseph and his father is Louis.
