Black ink on white paper. Outdoor scene shows a crumbling building on fire, probably destroyed by bombing, and people standing at the windows and on the steps leading to the door. In the foreground a wounded man is being held under his arms by two others. Two men holding rifles are running towards the door. The print makes reference to Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of April and May, 1943. Narrative: All 16 of the prints in this series depict life of Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto during the Holocaust. Printmaker, book illustrator and painter, Stefan Mrozewski was born in Czéstochowa, Poland. Mrozewski's prints are in permament collections of several public art collections in Europe and North America. The artist was married to Irena Blizinska. An ardent patriot, he was a volunteer in the Polish Army in the war against the Soviet Union in 1920, as well as during the Second World War when he served in Armia Krajowa, the clandestine Polish Home Army.
