History / Biographical
Mortimer B. Davis (1866 - 1928) was a philanthropist and leader within the Montreal business community, as well as the Jewish community. The President of Imperial Tabacco, Davis was known for merging various companies within the tobacco industry, though Davis also invested in other types of industry, such as mining and spirits. Sir Mortimer B. Davis was also involved with the Montreal Board of Trade and sat on numerous boards. As a philanothropist, Davis helped fund many of Jewish Montreal's major institutions, including the Young Hebrew Men's Association, Federation of Jewish Philathropies and Mount Sinai Sanatorium during his life.
