OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, May 6, 1939, Page 9 Deaths Davis - At the Jewish General Hospital, Montreal, on May 5, 1939, after a brief illness, Rose Davis, only daughter of Hyman and Ida Davis of 42 Spring Street, Saint John, leaving her parents and four brothers. Body resting at Chamberlain's Funeral Home, 145 King Street East, whence funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery. Her Untimely Death is Widely Mourned Miss Rose Davis [photograph] A host of friends in Saint John will learn with sorrow of the untimely death of Miss Rose Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Davis, 42 Spring Street. Miss Davis dies in the Montreal Jewish General Hospital yesterday. Her mother had gone to Montreal for medical treatment and she had accompanied her there. One the same day they were to return home, about a week ago, Miss Davis was taken ill with meningitis and succumbed yesterday morning. A graduate of Saint John High School, class of 1929, Miss Davis was beloved for her bright and cheerful disposition, and the entire Jewish community here mourns her passing. She was a valued member of the Saint John Junior Hadassah and a prime mover in all affairs which had a charitable purpose. Her father is a prominent building contractor here. Besides her parents, Miss Davis is survived by four brothers, Abraham, Saint John, a civil engineer; Eli, a medical student at Dalhousie University; Samuel, a graduate student in engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts and Isadore, employed with B. and L. Theatres, this city. The body arrived from Montreal on the early morning train today and is resting at Chamberlain's Funeral Home, 145 King Street East. The funeral will be held from there tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment will be made in the Jewish lot at Fernhill Cemetery. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. M. Beshkin and Rev. A. Babb. Davis, Rose Evening Times Globe Monday, May 8, 1939, page 14 Funerals Miss Rose Davis The funeral of Miss Rose Davis who died in Montreal on Friday was held on Sunday from the funeral home of Chamberlain's, 145 King Street East. The funeral was one of the most largely attended in recent days. Miss Davis was the only daughter of Hyman and Ida Davis of this city. The service was held at 2 p.m. with Rev. M. Beshkin officiating, assisted by Rev. A. Babb. Among the floral tributes received which shos the esteem in which Miss Davis was held were the following : the employees of Hyman Davis, James H. Pullen, the management of the Empire Theatre. Friends acted as pall bearers and interment was made in the Hebrew plot in Fernhill Cemetery. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.209.
