32 pages, bound with 2 metal staples. Soft blue cover with Hungarian coat of arms at centre. Document is a shopping booklet, used for controlling the purchase of household goods in a rationing system. Belonged to Pal Weinberger. Inside cover contains printed text warning that merchants and traders can only sell as much as is set by the ministry guidelines. All merchants were obligated to note the quantity of goods they sold to the holder of the booklet. Failure to do this could result in fines or imprisonment. Narrative: Donor is Elaine Kalman Naves, daughter of Gusztáv and Anikó Weinberger. Pal Weinberger was Gusztáv's younger brother. He was deported to Auschwitz with the rest of his extended family, survived the selection and was sent to Buchenwald. He became very ill there and was shot as the camp was being liberated. Gusztáv returned from the front to learn that 34 members of his extended family, including his wife and small daughter Évike, had been deported to Auschwitz. Only one cousin returned. He remarried Anikó Schwartz and they had two daughters, Elaine and Judith. This collection of correspondence was used as part of the research for the following book: Kalman Naves, Elaine. Journey to Vaja: Reconstructing the World of a Hungarian-Jewish Family. Montreal: McGill-Queen's University Press, 1996. Print.

At each side of the metal sphere (below the bird) are ornate arms: filigree shaped with openworked details and leaves coming out of the bottom centre. At the end of each arm is a tulip shaped candle holder, attached to a column and round base. The top of the candle holder has a raised rim in the center with high relief petal-like details around the circumference. The holders screw onto the arms.

Notes
Pointed helix set inside a bell-shaped socket. The 2 wide sides of the socket have been left open, revealing the helix and screw that it's attached to. The helix is screwed perpendicularly to a handle with tapered and beveled edges. An additional 'T' handle is coming perpendicularly out of the top right corner of the socket; it is linked to the helix with a round link, allowing it to rotate when the handle is turned. When the 'T' handle is turned, the helix swivels and goes up and down. Alternately, when the top handle is moved up and down, the 'T' handle turns. Narrative: Corkscrew was made in Hungary (probably in Budapest) 150-200 years ago. It belonged to donor's grandfather lipot Sefera, and was passed on to her mother and then to her.
