Notes
Mr. Lecker and his fellow soldiers had stopped to rest while moving across Holland. At the stop, beside a farm house, a young girl ran out with something to drink and a cup for the soldiers. The truck moved on quickly while Mr. Lecker was drinking from the cup and he didn't have time to return the cup. Consists of one ceramic cup with "Hannover, Sachsenrof" written on it.

History / Biographical
George L. Gilbert was born in Montreal on September 3, 1914 to Beckie (nee Wisnitzer) and Luis Gilbert, both immigrants to Canada; his father from Poland and his mother from Austria originally. His service records list his occupation as "department manager". In July 1942, Gilbert enlisted in the Canadian air force and was made pilot at the No. 1 Air Observers School at Malton in December 1943. He served overseas with the City of Vancouver No. 405 (R.C.A.F. Pathfinder). He was reported missing after air operations over Wilhemshaven and was presumed dead on October 15, 1944.

Notes
Pen rest carved by German man that Mannie Lecker became acquainted with during his stationing in Germany after the end of World War II. The man carved the pen rest for Mr. Lecker as a keepsake before his departure back to Canada. Consists of one wooden pen rest with "Hamburg" carved into the wood.

Notes
During their march across Europe, Royal Canadian Air Force ground crew had to dig "graves" beside their camoflauged planes in which to sleep. At one farm in Normandy, Mr. Lecker made friends with a farmer because he was the only one who spoke French. The farmer gave Mr. Lecker this spirit lamp to keep warm and to light up his "grave". Consists of one spirit lamp, brass.
