- Notes
- 1 page, double-sided. Document is a postcard with typed text and a handwritten addition at bottom, recto. Country designated in return address is 'Polen Deutschland' (Poland Germany, trad. from German). Narrative: Postcard was sent to the donor Sara Birnbaum and her husband, from his family in Poland. She emigrated to Canada in 1932 and married. The postcard was mailed from Poland to Antwerp, Belgium, then forwarded to her in Montreal. There was no mail service between Canada and Poland during World War II; as a Dominion of the British Empire, Canada opted to support the British war effort. Canada thus became an enemy to the Third Reich.
