- 1 page, double-sided horizontal paper, folded horizontally and vertically. Recto, in handwriting of Mancika Mandula Weinberger, continues on to left side of verso. Signed "Manci" and dated "IV.16". On right side, handwriting of Ilona Weinberger. Following are two lines in Mancika's hand. On recto of envelope, in Mancika's handwriting, addressed to "Weinberger Gustav / 108/101 msz." in Borgóprund, Beszterce-Naszód county. At top right, signature of Captain Soós. At top right, one red 30 forint fiscal stamp. Verso contains sender's address across top of envelope flap. Letter contains correspondence between the Weinberger family and Gustav Weinberger, contains family updates and well-wishes. The tone in this letter is notably more anxious than previous correspondence. Narrative: Donor is Elaine Kalman Naves, daughter of Gustav and Anikó Weinberger. The letter is in the handwriting of Mancika Mandula Weinberger (1910-1944) -- the first wife of Gustav Weinberger -- and Ilona Weinberger (1881-1944). All but Gustav were killed in Auschwitz in 1944. The correspondence was under supervision by Captain Soós. This collection of correspondence was used as part of the research for the following book: Kalman Naves, Elaine. Journey to Vaja: Reconstructing the World of a Hungarian-Jewish Family. Montreal: McGill-Queen's University Press, 1996. Print.
