- OBITUARIES: Evening Times Globe, February 14, 1940, Page 71 SB94 Samuel Gilbert Dies At Hospital. Formerly of Poland, Had Been Proprieter of Store Here in Saint John Numerous friends will learn with regret of the death of Samuel Gilbert, 47 Prince Edward Street, which occurred at the Saint John General Hospital at an early hour this morning. He was the son of the late Lipman and Leah Gilbert, and was born at Lpne, Poland, coming to New Brunswick 36 years ago. Mr. Gilbert was a well known citizen, many years a proprietor of a dry goods establishment on Prince William Street. He was a member of the Hebrew Congregation of Shaarei Zedek in which he was an active member. He is survived besides his wife by two daughters, Jean and Rita at home; six sisters, Miss J. Webber of this city, Mrs. M. Miller of Halifax and four sisters in Poland and two brothers, Leo of Saint John and James in Poland. The funeral was held this afternoon from Chamberlain’s Funeral Home, 145 King Street East. The service was conducted by Rev. A. Babb and Rev. M. Beshkin at 2:30 o’clock. Interment as made in the Hebrew plot in Fernhill Cemetery.
