- Scope and Content
- This series consists of files dealing with the work of the Peace Now organization in general as well as its Montreal chapter. A large file holds papers relevant to the group's work before Scheinberg's chairmanship in 2005. Files deal with various speakers brought in by Montreal Friends of Peace Now including: well known Israeli journalist Akiva Eldar, General Shlomo Brom, Yaariv Oppenheimer (Director General of Peace Now), speakers representing the Geneva Accords (a virtual peace agreement designed by Israelis and Palestinians) and Peter Beinart (an American journalist and professor who was barred from Jewish venues because he advocated a boycott of West Bank settlements). There is a file on the prospective 'Ground Zero Mosque' and Islamaphobia. Some files constitute editorials done for Radio Shalom (a Montreal Jewish radio program), The Mark (an on-line publication), and Tolerance.ca. These editorials offer a center-left view from the Jewish community. Some of the subjects dealt with are: 'One State', the Olmert Legacy, the Rabbis and the YMHA, Rosenberg Case Revisited, Palestinian and Israeli Text Books, etc.. Other files include; Peace Now Activities 2008, the Israel Lobby, Jerusalem status, settlements, and Bedouin Removal. There is a Diary of a 2003 trip to Israel featuring meetings with many prominent Israelis, under the auspices of Meretz U.S.A. (an affiliate of the leftist party in the Israeli Knesset)
