Using this Site
You can use the general keyword query box to explore all the data on the Canadian Jewish Heritage Network. Your results may include archival document descriptions from the collection to the item level, as well as family history information. To learn more about the family history resources offered here, please consult the Genealogy page.
For a more refined search of historical, cultural, and genealogy-related subjects, we encourage you to use Advanced Search. You will be able to narrow your results again after searching.
Please note: We may house materials on your specific subject which have not yet been posted to this database. If your search results in no information, we encourage you to contact us directly.
Using the Selection Feature
When reviewing your search results, we recommend that you use the Select buttons to create a temporary list of materials of interest. You can view, print, save and e-mail your selected records, as well as submit a request for more information on them, by clicking the View Selections link in the menu.
Helpful Search Tips
- Enclose exact names and phrases in "quotation marks", e.g. "Jewish People's School".
- * matches zero or more sequential characters, ? matches a single character. See examples
- When searching for an inclusive range of years, use "TO" and enclose the numbers in square brackets, e.g. [1900 TO 1910].
- Use AND, OR, or NOT, in capital letters, for combining terms. (Use of AND is automatic.)
- Use + or - operators, for "Must contain" / "Must not contain" combined terms. E.g. camp –summer / camp +summer
Copies and Pricing
The images on this website are low resolution versions that are not meant for publication elsewhere. In many cases material is described on this website without a digital copy being shown. To obtain copies, or a higher resolution copy, add items to your selection list, then use the Request Information feature in the selection list to make your request (submit your request to the repository holding the items). Pricing policies for copies vary by institution.
Collecting and Donating
Each institution represented on this site has specific collection policies. We suggest you use the Contact Us page to reach the organization that most closely matches your query. If you are unsure who to contact, send your message to the site coordinator at email@example.com.
This project was initially made possible by the generosity of the Samuel and Saidye Bronfman Family Foundation. It is currently sustained thanks to the Alex Dworkin Foundation for Jewish Archives and the active participation of its major Project Partners; the Alex Dworkin Canadian Jewish Archives, under the aegis of JFC-UIA; the Jewish Public Library of Montreal (Federation CJA); the Ottawa Jewish Archives (Jewish Federation of Ottawa); and the Montreal Holocaust Museum.
We also acknowledge and thank our Genealogy project partners; Penny Rubinoff, and the Jewish Genealogy Society of Montreal.
