- History / Biographical
- Abraham and Fanny Dobrow emigrated from Russia to Ottawa in August of 1921 with their three children - Sol, Esther (Solman) and Miriam (Goldstein) - the youngest of whom was born in Rumania while en route to Canada. Initially, the Dobrows stayed with the Weiner family upon their arrival in Ottawa. After being given a bushel of apples to sell, Abraham Dobrow opened an outdoor fruit and vegetable stall in the Byward Market which he would operate for the remainder of his working life. By the spring of 1926, the Dobrows purchased their own home, a duplex at 495-497 St. Patrick. From 1926 onwards, the Dobrow family continued to prosper and purchased numerous rental properties.
