Leading Aircraftman David Axler, of Brantford, Ontario, was killed in an air accident in Canada when his training plane crashed 15 miles from Windsor, Ontario. He had won his wings and was about to receive them formally when the accident occurred. He had trained at Regina and Brandon before being posted to Windsor in November 1940. A major in the cadets before entering the services, Leading Aircraftman Axler was the first of the Jewish men from Brantford to enlist in the R.C.A.F. (Source: Canadian Jews in World War II)

OBITUARIES: Telegraph Journal, March 13, 1996 Brown – Unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 11, 1996, Dorothy Jean Brown of 119 Leinster Street, wife of Dr. Murray N. Brown. Born in Saint John, she was a daughter of Aldena (Craig) Ross and the late Charles E. Ross. She was a lifelong resident of Saint John, a life member of Hadassah WIZO, a member and director of the Saint John Multicultural Association. Dorothy will be missed by her family and many friends. Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by one son, Richard L. Brown, Vancouver B.C., three daughters, Ruth Ann Skinner, St. John’s NFLD, Pamela Dawn Calman and her husband Leslie Lethbridge, Alberta and Victoria Lea Tierney and her husband Gerard, Brampton, Ontario, one brother John Malcolm Ross and his wife Denise, Moncton N.B., one sister Joan Toner and her husband Douglas, Saint John East, ten grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by a brother Ronald Ross, Moncton. Resting at the Hillsley Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street (634-1700) from where the funeral will be held from the Hillsley chapel on Wednesday with service at 2 p.m. Interment in Shaarei Zedek Cemetery. Donations to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Gravestone reference code(s): JM 998.61.482.

First page from german vocabulary dictionary Narrative: Willie Deutz, a German Jew from Frankfurt was married in 1929 to a German gentile woman named Paula. They had met as Paula worked as a servant for Willie’s parents. Willie was arrested in 1943 and sent to a prison in Darmstadt (Germany). He was later deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau (Poland) where he was killed. Paula received a death notice from the camp commandant, pretending her husband had succumbed to an infection and she could retrieve his ashes if she desired to do so.
