- Lieutenant David Bindman of Thetford Mines, Quebec, was officially reported to have died of wounds suffered in action in Italy. A member of the Victoria Rifles of Canada before the war, he transferred to an engineering unit after the start of hostilities. After training at Quebec City and Toronto, he went overseas in June 1940, where he was commissioned and attached to the Royal Canadian Regiment. A fellow officer from his regiment wrote on the action in which Lieutenant Bindman lost his life: "It was Dave's first real action against the enemy... Dave took out a few men and drove them off, wounding the German officer and capturing two men. Shortly after his return, the warning was shouted that enemy tanks were again about to charge. Dave ran to join his men and was standing on level ground encouraging his men to dig and place weapons when a shell landed within a few feet of him and he received three severe wounds... Although continually under fire and hard pressed, Dave's men would not leave him behind and he was carried out on an improvised stretcher. He bore up bravely... Dave fought hard to the last but died the next day and was buried by our Padre, Major R.O. Wilkes...." (Source: Canadian Jews in World War II.)

- Notes
- Lieutenant Mitchell Sterlin of Montreal, Quebec, was killed in action on December 19, 1943. He was posthumously mentioned in dispatches in the King’s New Year's Honors List in January 1945. Enlisting in the army at the outbreak of hostilities, he graduated in August 1942 from the Officers’ Training Centre at Gordon Head, British Columbia, where he received his commission. He went overseas the following March. On Yom Kippur Day, 1943, he landed in Italy. Attached to the British Eighth Army in Italy, Lieutenant Sterlin was killed in action (Casualty List No. 415, Jan. 27, 1944). Only two days before a sniper’s bullet ended his life, Lieutenant Sterlin led an attack by 11 men that smashed a Nazi counter-attack, killing 40 Nazis and forcing the remainder to retreat. He led the defence, although urged to retreat from a strong point on the Ortona front, which in regimental records bears the name of “Sterlin House.” Lieutenant Sterlin participated in the battles of Ridge Hill, Campobasso, Oritino, Castropignano, Malise, Juronia, the Moro River and Ortona. After the fighting in Sicily, he had been placed in command of a Sicilian town. A Star of David is found on his tombstone.

- Private Hymie Yuffe of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was killed in the battle of the Sangro River. As the first snows of winter began to fall, the Canadians reached the German defensive line north of the Sangro River. After fierce fighting alongside troops from New Zealand and India, the Canadians forced the Germans back to a second defensive line in the Moro Valley. After the battle, which lasted ten days, the Canadian soldiers had pushed the Germans back to the ancient town of Ortona overlooking the Adriatic.
